The ALT offers a number of grants and award schemes, available to paid-up members. The ALT makes up to £10,000 available for its annual grants and has three different types of grants to support different elements of work undertaken by our members. The first is our research grants scheme which funds research into legal education broadly conceived, the second scheme focuses on innovation in learning and teaching whereas the final focuses on impact and is designed to help legal education researchers maximise the impact of their pedagogic research. All grants use the same application form which can be accessed via the link below.

Pedagogical Research Grant

This grant is designed to support research into all aspects of legal education. The ALT supports research into pedagogical aspects of our work as well as broader questions around the nature of legal education and the public and private lives of law schools.

Grants will not normally exceed £3000 for a single project.

Teaching Innovation Fund

This small grant is designed to fund ideas or projects that relate to innovation in legal education. Grants can be used to support the implementation of learning and teaching ideas at your own institution but applications should also make clear how these projects will be evaluated and findings disseminated.

These small grants will not normally exceed £750 for a single project

Learning Impact Grant

This small grant is designed to fund projects which help demonstrate the impact of research informed learning and teaching or help increase the impact of learning and teaching projects in this area.

These grants will not normally exceed £500 for a single project.

Stan Marsh Bursary

ALT offers three types of bursaries for members wishing to attend the annual conference. These are a First Attendance Bursary, School/College Bursary and a Doctoral Study Bursary.

Each bursary will cover the full costs of the conference. Delegates will be responsible for their own travel costs and accommodation where this is not included in the full conference fee.

ALT Seminar Fund

We are keen to promote high quality legal education scholarship that can be described as rigorous with significant reach. Applicants propose a one-off seminar or series of events in online, face-to-face or hybrid formats. Applicants can specify individual speakers/contributors and/or propose a wider call for papers.
